Lukas Schmid was born in Baden (Switzerland) on February 1st 1977. Having finished high school, he worked as cinematographer and editor for TMT productions. From 1998 to 2003, her studied documentary filmmaking at Filmakademie Baden-Würtemberg. Since then, he has freelanced as director, DoP and editor for TV networks (including WDR, arte, 3Sat) and film productions in Berlin and Zurich. Among his works, is the multi-part documentary "Das Internat Schloß Salem" (2004) and "Abseits" (2006), a film about the Swiss Football Championship for the Homeless. In 2010, Schmid and co-director Corinna Wichmann presented "Auf der sicheren Seite", a documentary on luxurious "Gated Communities" in different parts of the world.
