Chris Wright was born in Bolton, England, in 1972. After studying humanities and working as a translator, he studied film editing at the Film University Babelsberg 'Konrad Wolf' from 1994 to 2003. Since then he has worked as a freelance editor and documentary filmmaker, the latter mostly in cooperation with Stefan Kolbe. He was awarded the German Camera Prize in 2017 for editing Susanne Binninger's documentary "Fighter" (2016), about mixed martial arts fighters. Other editing work has included Andreas Goldstein's essayistic documentary "Der Funktionär" ("The Communist", 2018), Thomas Heise's award-winning "Heimat ist ein Raum aus Zeit" ("Heimat is a Space in Time", 2019), and Salomé Jashi's "Taming the Garden," which screened at the Sundance Festival (USA) and the 2021 Berlinale Forum. In 2020, Wright was nominated for the VG Bildkunst editing prize.  

Together with Stefan Kolbe, he made "Anmaßung" ("Anamnesis", 2021), a documentary with some acting that uses a specific perpetrator to explore the question of how society perceives felons. After premiering at the Forum of the 2021 Berlinale, the film was released theatrically in the summer of the same year. 

Wright has been a lecturer at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin since 2011.
