Martin Farkas was born in Tübingen on October 10 1964. After graduating from school, he worked on several documentary productions in Asia, South America, Africa and Europe. Back in Germany, he studied social pedagogy with the focus on sociology and psychology. At the same time, he worked as gaffer on film productions and directed several, award-winning video clips and advertisements.

From the mid-1990s on, Farkas worked as DoP on productions like "München – Geheimnisse einer Stadt" (1999/2000) by Dominik Graf and Michael Althen. In 2002, he was nominated for a German Film Prize for his photography in the documentary "A Woman and a half – Hildegard Knef". He also shot episodes of the TV series "Türkisch für Anfänger" (2007) and "Tatort".

In 2009, he made his feature film debut as director with the documentary "Deutsche Seelen - Leben nach der Colonia Dignidad", co- directed by Matthias Zuber.
