Born in Hechingen-Sickingen in Swabia in 1970. Spent his community service term working in a psychiatric institution. Studied European law at Passau University and took a preliminary degree. Erasmus fellowship in Santiago de Compostela in 1994. Started film studies at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (dffb) in 1995, graduating with the feature film "Berlin is in Germany", which won the 2001 Panorama Audience Prize and a number of other awards. "One day in Europe" was in the Berlinale competition in 2006.
