Sebastian Peterson, born in Hamburg in 1967, studied directing at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen 'Konrad Wolf' in Potsdam-Babelsberg (today: Film University Babelsberg). His 13-minute graduation film "Fake!" (1997), a satire of Quentin Tarantino's cinema, was the recipient of several awards at film festivals worldwide.    

Peterson made his feature film debut with "Helden wie wir" ("Heroes Like Us", 1999), adapted from a novel by Thomas Brussig. The film received mixed reviews. After that, he mainly worked in the field of animation and made several short films, among them award-winning "Tagebuch einer perfekten Liebe" (2007), "Hard Stuff" (2010) and "Ein Hund namens Pit" (2012). All three films were named Short Film of the Month by the German federal authority for evaluating and rating film and media, the Deutsche Film- und Medienbewertung (FBW).  

In the fall of 2015, Peterson's second feature film "Meier Müller Schmidt" premiered at the Hofer Filmtage. The comedy about the experiences of three Berlin roommates was released in summer 2016 to positive reviews. In the years that followed, he made a number of animated contributions to the TV magazine "Karambolage" for the German-French cultural broadcaster Arte.  

At the Hofer Filmtage 2022 Sebastian Peterson presented his third feature film: "Das Recht der Stärkeren" ("The Right of the Strong"), a study on right-wing extremism and social media. The movie was theatrically released in April 2023.
