Go Clara Go: die Kunst des kreativen Widerstands
The documentary traces the emergence and development of an independent art scene in the GDR during the 1970s and 1980s. At its center are the artist collective Clara Mosch and the cooperatively run Galerie Oben in Chemnitz - then called Karl-Marx-Stadt - who pursued their own paths outside official cultural policy. The film follows former members and companions, presents archival footage of performances, exhibitions, and artists' festivals, and reconstructs a creative environment that existed under the watchful eye of the Stasi. Director Sylvie Kürsten documents how art became a space for nonconformist expression, rivaling Western influences such as Joseph Beuys, and how Chemnitz became a site of creative resistance that still resonates today.
