Samia

The nine-year-old Samia races with her best friend on the way to school in Mogadishu, and she is always the fastest. Her biggest dream is to participate in the annual city race, despite the ban on women participating in sports and the risk of being caught by patrols. While her mother is worried, her father supports her dream and promises her real sneakers if she wins. Samia trains secretly at night and ultimately emerges as the winner of the city race. Her dream of one day competing as the fastest woman from Somalia in the Olympics feels within reach. The film is based on the true story of Somali athlete Samia Yusuf Omar, who competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
