Biography

Jeremy József Pierre Fekete was born on August 15, 1960 in Oberentfelden, Switzerland, and is of Swiss-Hungarian descent. He first studied music at the Conservatory in Lucerne, then, in conjunction with art studies, he trained as a restorer of canvas and wood paintings at the Istituto per l'arte e il restauro, Palazzo Spinelli in Florence from 1979 to 1981. Back in Switzerland, he studied modern sculpture and painting at the Lucerne School of Art and Design and the University of Art and Design in Basel between 1984 and 1989. This was followed by group and solo exhibitions of his works at Art Basel, the Museum of Art Lucerne and also the Kunsthalle Basel, among others.

Since 1994 Fekete has worked primarily as a freelance writer and director. His advertising and music videos have been broadcast on MTV and VIVA, and he has made art and culture documentaries for the TV broadcaster ARTE. He has also made TV films and documentaries for the public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, including the short portraits "Berliner, Filmstar, Weltenbummler - Hardy Krüger" (2003) and "Im Bann des Augenblicks - Der Fotograf Robert Lebeck".  In 2004, he realized a short documentary about Romy Schneider for the ZDF series "Idole", which he co-developed, in 2011 he did another one about the German actor Udo Kier for ARTE. Again for ARTE, he conceived and implemented the series "Schlösserwelten Europas" ("Castels and Palaces of Europe", 2013), and he also created other documentary series, including "Europas legendäre Straßen" ("Backroads Europe"), "Tankstellen des Glücks" ("Gasoline Deluxe", both 2015) and "Bahnhofskathedralen... Europas Reise-Paläste" ("Cathedrals of Steam - Europe's Most Famous Railway Stations", 2018) about notable European train stations.

In August 2021, Fekete's documentary "Look Me Over: Liberace" was released in theaters. The film is dedicated to the piano player and entertainer Liberace, also known as the "King of Bling," who became one of the most dazzling figures in American pop culture with his pompously kitschy shows in Las Vegas.
