Quo vadis, Aida?

July 1995: Thousands of Bosnian civilians are fleeing the city of Srebrenica, on the run from attacking Serbian troops. Aida is an interpreter employed by the UN, which is charged with protecting the city. Alas, the situation is escalating at a harrowing pace, and, while the "blue helmet" soldiers are increasingly confronted with their own powerlessness, Aida fights with all her might to save her family from a disastrous fate. A gripping piece of work, Jasmila Žbanić's film renders palpable the chaos and desperation that dominated life in Bosnia in the days leading up the massacre in Srebrenica.
