Mother

In this film with documentary elements and re-enacted scenes, actor and comedian Anke Engelke acts as a mouthpiece and figurative representation for the individual stories of eight mothers between the ages of 30 and 75. While the soundtrack reproduces their original interviews, Anke Engelke lip-syncs to the monologues, portraying the protagonists busy in the household, sitting in a café or fixing the car as they share their personal experiences of being mothers. In this way, a mosaic-like image of motherhood is assembled, which eludes a one-sided, purely positive portrayal and expands it to include the darker sides of excessive demands, doubts and anger.
