Monte Verità - Der Rausch der Freiheit

Vienna, early 20th century. Hanna Leitner, a mother of two, longs to escape her oppressive bourgeois surroundings and her sexually abusive husband Anton. She begins therapy with the young psychoanalyst Otto Gross, whom she eventually follows to Switzerland: to the Monte Verità Sanatorium near Ascona, founded by the music educator Ida Hofmann. There Hanna discovers her fascination with photography. She gets to know personalities such as Hermann Hesse and Lotte Hattemer and finds a way to herself through art. At the same time, she manages to fathom the causes of her fears and her psychological problems. Although she is also plagued by feelings of guilt towards her family, the urge for personal development and freedom is stronger.
