Werner Boote was born in Vienna on June 2nd 1965. He got his first media experience working as a grip for Austrian television, and after finishing school, he majored in theatre, publishing and sociology at Vienna University. Following his graduation, he studied direction at the Vienna film academy. During that time, he already worked in different functions for film productions, including Niki List"s "Müllers Büro", "Requiem für Dominik" by Robert Dornhelm and Ulrich Seidl"s "Tierische Liebe".

Since 1993, Boote – who resided in Amsterdam between 1993 and 2002 – works as director. Specializing in music-related themes, his works include the award-winning music video "Anouk – Sacrifice" and "Andrea Bocelli – Cieli di Toscana". His documentary "MQ 2000", which chronicles the construction of Vienna"s museum district, was awarded the "Silver Screen Award" at the 2001 New York Film Festival. Boote"s made-for –TV production "Kurt Rydl – Der Gladiator", which portrays the famous opera singer, was an Austrian entry at the 2003 Emmy Awards. Between 2007 and 2009, Boote originated the documentary series "Die Kunst im Alltag" for Austrian television: The 30-minute episodes focused on highly different, sometimes bizarre aspects of art, including musings on Christmas decorations, car fetishism, construction working and sun tan.

In 2008, Werner Boote made his cinema debut with the documentary "Plastic Planet". The film depicts how synthetic materials have become omnipresent in everyday life – and which dramatic effects the "plastic age" has on our environment.
