Biography

Tony Pemberton was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1966. He studied film at the State University of New York in Purchase, and then attended the graduate program at Bard College. From the late 1980s on, he directed several award-winning shorts. In 2000, he made his feature film debut with the drama "Beyond the Ocean" (RU/US/AU). The film about a young woman from Moscow who searches New York for the father of her child was screened at numerous international festivals. During the following years, Pemberton and his production company "Go East Filmproduktion" made documentaries and commercials in the US and Russia.

In 2012, he began production on his next feature film: "Buddha's Little Finger" (DE/CD). Based on the novel by Viktor Pelewin, the film relates the story of an unemployed author who gets caught in the midst of the 1991 state coup in Moscow and is drawn into a surreal adventure. "Buddha's Little Finger" was released in Germany in the summer of 2015.

In addition to his career as a director, Tony Pemberton teaches film at Montclair State University.
