Biography

Teresa Fritzi Hoerl grew up near the Alps in the Bavarian Allgäu. From 2004 she studied theater at the LMU in Munich and the University of London. In 2006/2007 she created her first productions, performances and video works at the Harold Pinter Drama Studio in England. In 2009 Hoerl successfully completed her studies in Munich with a Master of Arts degree. In the same year, she began studying directing at the University of Television and Film in Munich. Here she directed several short and medium-length feature films. Parallel to her studies, she has been working as a freelance director and writer since 2014. In 2017, Hoerl completed her short film "Familienzuwachs," which was awarded the Hessian Film Prize in the fall of 2017.

In the same year, she realized the 20-minute documentary "Choices," about extreme mountaineer Steph Davis. In 2018, she began work on her feature-length debut, "Nothing More Perfect," a drama about a 16-year-old whose suicide messages, playfully circulated online, suddenly lead to a real threat during a city trip. At the 2020 Schlingel International Children's and Youth Film Festival, the film was awarded the DEFA Foundation's Förderpreis.

Hoerl's next film also centered teenagers: "Alle für Ella" ("Featuring Ella", 2022) is about an aspiring young musician who joins forces with her biggest competitor while preparing for a song contest, without the members of her band suspecting a thing.
