Biography
Sebastian Grobler was born in Hamburg in 1968 and grew up in the Ruhr area. From 1989 till 1995, he studied German literature, psychology and history in Hamburg. He made his first steps in filmmaking as an assistant director for several TV and film productions, including Caroline Link"s "Jenseits der Stille" (1996) and Dieter Wedel"s miniseries "Der König von St. Pauli" (1998).
In 1997, he enrolled at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg. For his graduate film "Morgen früh ist die Nacht rum", he received the Studio Hamburg Talent Award in 2003.
After directing several episodes of the TV series "Die Fallers" and "Sturm der Liebe", he made his feature film debut with "Der ganz große Traum in 2011. Based upon real events, the film tells the story of a young idealistic teacher who worked at a preppy school in Braunschweig in 1874 and introduced the unknown British sport football to his pupils. Apart from directing, Sebastian Grobler also teaches at Hamburg University and at the Film Academy in Ludwigsburg.
