Biography

Michael Beyer studied piano and musical theatre direction, and also attended seminars at the New York Film Academy. Subsequently, he worked as a stage director at the Hamburg State Opera, and was also director at theatres in Oldenburg, Bielefeld, Nürnberg and Heidelberg. His made his first steps in television as an assistant director, before becoming renowned for spectacular live broadcastings of musical events. Over the years, he earned his reputation as an expert for the energetic capturing of musical performances on film, including a broadcast of a guest appearance of the New York Philharmonic in North Korea and several cinema live broadcastings of the Los Angeles Philharmonics.

In 2010 he scripted and directed the documentary "Alles in einer Hand – Der Pianist Paul Wittgenstein" for French-German TV station Arte. In 2001, the lavishly produced "Berliner Philharmoniker: A Musical Journey in 3D" marks Beyer"s debut as feature film director.
