Biography

Girley Charlene Jazama was born in Nambia. She played her first stage role during her time at Karibib Private School in a production of "The Lion King" (2005). In 2008, she was part of the writing team for the first season of "The Ties that Bind" - Namibia's first self-produced television series.  

In 2009, Jazama played a small role as a schoolgirl in the German TV production "Liebe, Babys und der Zauber Afrikas". She had her first leading role in the award-winning feature film "The White Line" (NA 2019), which she also co-produced, as a housemaid who falls in love with a white policeman in 1960s Southwest Africa. For this role, Jazama won Best Actress at the Sotigui Awards in Burkina Faso and received a nomination for the African Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria.   

The short film she co-produced, "Baxu and the Giants" (NA 2019), was also a major success, screening at numerous international festivals and winning the Jury Award for Best Foreign Feature Film at the San Francisco Indiefest.  

Girley Jazama played her first international role in Lars Kraume's "Der vermessene Mensch" ("Measures of Men", release: 2022), about a young Berlin ethnologist who becomes a witness to the genocide of the Herero and Nama in the colony of "German Southwest Africa" at the beginning of the 20th century.
