Biography

Eva Wolf grew up in Berlin, where she studied comparative literature and theater, film and television studies. She then successfully applied to the Babelsberg Film University 'Konrad Wolf' and completed a diploma course in directing until 2001. She made her feature film debut with her graduation film "Mumbai Masala" (2001), about the Indian film industry in the late 1990s. The film was screened at the Raindance Film Festival in London, among others.   

After several short and medium-length films, Wolf made the feature-length documentary "12 Monate Deutschland" (2010), about four exchange students from Africa, Latin America and the U.S. who stay with German host families for a year.  Wolf was inspired to make this project by her own experiences as an exchange student in Ecuador in the mid-1980s.   

Wolf's next documentary "Intensivstation" (2013) was also inspired by personal experiences. During her studies she had worked in nursing. The film, which was shown at the Duisburg Film Week and the Munich Dok.fest and was nominated for the German Television Award in 2014.   

In 2018, Eva Wolf began working on the documentary "Die Wache", for which she accompanied the police officers of a Münster police station through their everyday lives. In parallel, she directed her first feature-length film, the television drama "Das Menschenmögliche" ("A Matter of Life", 2019), about an assistant doctor (Alissa Jung) who openly admits to a fatal malpractice, thereby making enemies of her colleagues and superiors. "Das Menschenmögliche" premiered at the 2019 Munich Film Festival and received a nomination for the prestigious Grimme Prize. Even before the premiere, Eva Wolf was selected together with Franziska M. Hoenisch for the public broadcaster ZDF support programme for up-and-coming female directors.   

Finally, in February 2021, "Die Wache" was released as video-on-demand due to the pandemic-related cinema closures.
