Biography

Christina Tournatzẽs, born in 1992, studied directing at Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Munich. Her 15-minute graduation film "Cargo" (2019) reconstructed the horrific case of human trafficking in which 71 people suffocated in the cargo hold of a truck. The film was shown at festivals around the world and received numerous awards.

At the Munich Film Festival in 2025, Tournatzẽs presented her first feature film, "Karla"—set in 1962, the story of a 12-year-old girl who, despite social resistance, takes her father to court for abuse. At Filmfest Munich 2025, Tournatzẽs received the Förderpreis Neues Deutsches Kino for Best Direction and Best Screenplay. Karla was released in German cinemas in fall 2025.
