Biography

Alexandra Balteanu was born in Romania in 1982. In 2003, she relocated to Germany, where she majored in media studies in Weimar (until 2008). She gathered her first professional film experiences during a production internship and on the set of a short film in Romania. In 2010, she enrolled at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (dffb) to study directing. Her graduation feature "Vanatoare" ("Prowl"), which portrays three Bucharest women who prostitute themselves for very different reasons, premiered at the 2016 San Sebastian Film Festival. The film won both the Oecumenic Jury Arward and the Award of the Prime Minister of Saarland for Best Director at the 2017 Max Ophüls Preis and took home the critic's award for Best Feature at the 2017 achtung berlin festival.
