Film synopsis: The film is set in a fictional South American country: The military has taken over power and rules the country with an iron fist. Anybody who voices a critical opinion about the political system is arrested. But in a small defiant village, the residents declare their solidarity with the countless political prisoners – in fact to the point in time until the entire city’s residents get arrested. Now, "Calm Prevails Over the Country" again.

"Es herrscht Ruhe im Land" ("Calm Prevails Over the Country") was digitized by Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek as part of the film heritage funding program "Förderprogramm Filmerbe" (FFE) in 2019.
