Summary

In North Germany, Hauke Haien takes over the roles of dike warden and coastal protection director following the death of his father-in-law. Deeply connected to nature, he issues urgent warnings about the consequences of climate change – but his cautions fall on deaf ears. Only his wife, Elke, stands by him, helping to bring his ideas into the political sphere. When it becomes clear, however, that Hauke's plans involve dismantling parts of the dikes and deliberately flooding certain areas to protect others, the community turns against him. No one is willing to give up the hard-won land – and a catastrophe unfolds that can no longer be stopped.
