Summary
The Italian couple Emilia and Francesco live in Calabria. Francesco has recently been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's. They have already informed their older son Giuseppe, but their younger son Antonello, who lives in Germany and barely keeps in touch, does not yet know. To tell him the news in person, Emilia and Francesco decide to visit him. Upon arriving in Germany, Emilia and Francesco are initially hosted by friends before spending a night in their son's apartment. Antonello appears thin, pale, and withdrawn. Embarrassed silence dominates their brief encounters, which remain polite but distant. While Antonello keeps his distance, Emilia and Francesco find comfort in each other’s affection.
In his autofictional film, director Antonello Scarpelli tells an intimate family story, appearing alongside his parents on camera, with professional actors filling supporting roles.
