Film synopsis: Vienna celebrates New Year's Eve at the turn of the year 1913/14, it is the eve of the First World War. The mood at the Hotel Sacher is exuberant, although the political atmosphere is charged, hatred and intolerance dominate society. Against this background, Nadja, a Russian spy, and the Austrian civil servant Stefan meet. He loves her, but through this encounter becomes the suspect of being an agent. When Nadja is arrested, he shoots himself.
