Summary
Travelling for beauty
Perceived "too big" in her home country and currently confronted with the relevance of "body” and "beauty", author Tine Wittler travels to Mauritania – a country in the Sahara desert where fully-figured women are considered especially beautiful and force-feeding of young girls is still practiced. But how can this be? How can anything like an "ideal" emerge in the first place, and what is it influenced by? How can I deal with the conflict of wanting to be "beautiful" and wanting to be "free"? And how do Mauritanian women cope with the topic of beauty in a country that still makes them fight for their rights and is more and more influenced by global images of "beauty"? Tine’s trip turns out to be a big adventure. Among the people she meets are a human rights activist, a famous singer, a philosopher. And Wafa – a very special person with her own mind and her own wisdom...
A film about real beauty, the necessity of changing your perspective in order to learn, and friendship.
