Summary
Manipulation (Comfortwomen)
This is a story about manipulating memory and history. The director tried to make several different scenes and stories using just one picture. He relied only on using handmade collages to show how the truth can be manipulated. The people were not in the frame when it was originally filmed. Everything is manipulated. However, if you watch this video closely, you will be able to notice the truth behind the scene.
The term "comfort woman" is a euphemism. It describes girls and women who were forced into sexual slavery by the imperial Japanese army in occupied territories before and during World War II. According to estimates, 100,000 to 300,000 girls and women were affected. After the war, almost all of the documents were destroyed and a lot of women were killed by the Japanese army. The war crimes trials did not address forced prostitution.
Most Japanese of the current generation do not know about this war crime. The Japanese government and some conservative politicians claim that the comfort women have rendered their services voluntarily.
