Summary
Taking a nationalist spin on the renowned tale of "Carmen", the film centers around the tragic love of young, idealistic brigadier José Navarro for the seductive Carmen. Blindly infatuated with the girl – who is associated with a gang of smugglers –, he refuses to arrest her. As a consequence, Navarro is dishonourably discharged from military service and put into jail. After the smugglers raid the prison and free him, Navarro joins their ranks. But when the gang plans to ambush the soldiers, Navarro finally overcomes his obsession with Carmen and sacrifices himself for the sake of his old regiment.
