In Germany 9000 youths of very different backgrounds are permanently homeless. The documentary "9 Leben" ("9 Lives") portrays several young people out of different milieus and with very different reasons for having no abode. In a neutral studio setting, meant to avoid clichés and help focus on their personalities, the film shows the protagonists telling about their lives and their sometimes dramatic and painful experiences. Some of them have brought musical instruments to play on, others show photographs or self-made artwork. By this means the film provides a neutral space for their individual stories to unfold in individual ways.
