Fionn Whitehead was born on July 18, 1997 in the London suburb of Richmond as the youngest son of the renowned jazz musicians Linda and Tim Whitehead. He gained his first stage experience from the age of 13 at the Orange Tree Theatre. During his college years, he took part in a summer course at the National Youth Theatre in London.
Whitehead's first television role was a leading role: as a telekinetically gifted teenager in the three-parter "Him" (GB 2016). He had his breakthrough with the leading role as a British soldier in Christopher Nolan's Second World War epic "Dunkirk" (GB/US/FR/NL 2017). For this part Whitehead received a nomination for the Prize of the London Film Critics Association. He also starred in a episode of the TV series "Queers" (GB 2017) and in the much acclaimed episode "Bandersnatch" from the series "Black Mirror" (GB 2018), in which every viewer could interactively make decisions for the main character. In 2019, he received another nomination from London Film Critics Association for his leading role as Jehovah's Witness in Richard Eyre's drama "The Children Act" (GB 2017).
In the spring of 2019, Fionn Whitehead starred in a leading role in Sebastian Schipper's "Roads", about a young Briton and a young Congolese who embark on an eventful journey to France. In the same year, the drama "Port Authority" (US/FR 2019) started, in which he impersonated a young drifter in New York who falls in love with a Trans woman.
