Biography

Jonas Dassler was born in Remscheid in 1996 and started acting in a school theatre group. After completing his A levels, Dassler in 2014 went on to study acting at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst 'Ernst Busch' in Berlin. While still a student, he made his debut on the big screen starring in the lead role of the drama "Uns geht es gut" ("We Are Fine", 2015) about a group of young people who, during a summer, form a peculiar substitute family. Following this, Dassler played the main character in "LOMO - The Language of Many Others" (DE/FR 2016), a film about a heartbroken teenager, who after a rejection decides to let the followers of his blog decide what he should do with his life. In 2017, he starred in Lars Kraume's "Das schweigende Klassenzimmer" ("The Silent Revolution"), a drama set in the GDR.

After graduating from the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst, Dassler joined the ensemble at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater in Berlin in the 2017/2018 season. In 2018, he won Best Actor at the Achtung Berlin Festival as well as the New Talent Award at the Bayerischer Filmpreis for his performance in "LOMO - The Language of Many Others". The film was released in German cinemas in July 2018.

In the same year, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's artist biopic "Werk ohne Autor" ("Never Look Away") with Dassler in a supporting role had its theatrical release. On television he belonged to the ensemble of the crime mini-series "Die Protokollantin" ("The Typist", directed by Nina Grosse and Samira Radsi).

Jonas Dassler played a much acclaimed leading role in Fatih Akin's "Der goldene Handschuh" ("The Golden Glove"), namely the infamous Hamburg serial killer Fritz Honka (1935-1998). One week after its world premiere in competition at the Berlinale 2019, the film was released in German theaters. For his performance in the film Dassler received a nomination for the German Film Award in the Best Male Lead category.

Also in 2019, he was in front of the camera for Lena Stahl's feature film debut "Mein Sohn" ("My Son") alongside Anke Engelke. The drama about the strained relationship between a risk-loving teenager and his (overly) concerned mother was released in winter 2021. The year before, Dassler was named one of the ten European Shooting Stars of the Year at the Berlinale.
