Return of the Atom

Finnland Deutschland 2005-2015 Dokumentarfilm

Summary

"Return of the Atom" is a long-term documentary about the seemingly endless construction of a nuclear power plant on the Finnish peninsula Olkiluoto, the only place in Europe that started building a new power plant after the catastrophe in Chernobyl. Construction works in the small town Eurajoki kicked off in 2005 and lasted until 2017. Protests of the town's inhabitants were scarce, as most of them are employees of the operating companies that also manage the two already existing nuclear power plants as well as the nuclear waste plant. Over the course of ten years, the filmmakers witnessed the building progress with its many delays, exploding costs, the permanent whitewashing of the managers and the palpable insecurity of the people.
