Sharks and Small Fish

Germany during the Second World War: Four young naval cadets receive a tough drill on board of a minesweeper. When their flotilla is attacked and their ship sinks, Teichmann, one of the cadets, is among the survivors. He even rescues the badly wounded lieutenant-commander Wegener wose wife he has fallen in love with. Later, Teichmann is assigned to serve on a submarine where he meets several of his old comrades. One of them commits suicide when he comes to know that his father has been deported to a concentration camp. Life on board is tough and Teichmann does not get along well with brutal commander Lüttke until they desperately try to open a jammed torpedo gate in the polar sea. Finally, their submarine sinks after a heavy attack. Only few men survive.
