Synopsis

A Friend Of Mine

Karl and Hans could hardly be more different. Karl is a young, introverted
mathematician who is on his way to becoming the star of an insurance
agency. Success seems to fall into his lap; he′s earning good money, has a
super flat. The only thing is that he doesn′t seem to care about anything; he
has never felt what it is to be happy. His boss desperately tries to get some
reaction out of him and sends him off to estimate the risk factor in the tricky
rental car business. Karl gets himself a job with a car rental in order to
secretly observe the situation. There he meets Hans. Bubbling over with
energy and drive, Hans takes Karl into his own world, a world of fast cars, fun
and friendships, and the world of Stelle, his princess, the girl he loves and
wants to marry. When Hans gets Karl to go on a wild car chase completely
naked in two Porsches, Karl finally feel something like happiness and a real
friendship with Hans. But he also feels something like love, because he′s
never met a woman like Stelle before. Just when Karl is beginning to experience
life and happiness for the first time, his friendship with Hans is put to
a severe test …

Director Sebastian Schipper′s collaboration with co-producer Tom Tykwer goes back to Tykwer′s "Wintersleepeers" and "Run, Lola run" in which Schipper participated as an actor. Tykwer then produced Schipper′s first feature film "Absolute Giganten", which, like the comedy "A Friend of mine", is about male friendships.
