Summary
East-Germany, the year 1985. Through the US movie "Beat Street", 18 year-old Frank and his friends Matti and Alex discover the fascinating art of breakdancing. Although they know that the regime doesn't approve this "decadent" Western trend, they form the group "Break Pioneers", and dedicate all their energy and passion into the creation of new and spectacular dance moves. Eventually, the party officials see that they can't stop the increasing popularity of breakdancing with bans and restrictions. Therefore, they try to use the young dancers for their own ideological agenda: Breakdancing is accepted as "socialist entertainment", the "Break Pioneers" get a state supervisor and are built up as a public showcase. But when Frank realizes that they have been turned into propaganda tools, he starts to rebel.
