Born in Kayseri in Turkey in 1977, he studied economics in Istanbul and subsequently spent two years at the Polish film school in Łódź. His feature film debut, "Tatil Kitabi" , was premiered in the Forum section of the Berlinale in 2008 and went on to receive numerous international awards, including a nomination for the European Film Award in the category Discovery.
