Biography

Moritz Krämer was born on March 16, 1980, in Basel, Switzerland, and grew up in the Upper Black Forest in Germany. After completing high school in Freiburg, he pursued studies in video and text at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), where he directed multiple music videos and short films. In 2008, Krämer began studying directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb), where he produced the short film "Eat" (2012), which screened at various international festivals and won the Murnau Short Film Award.

In parallel with his film work, Krämer has maintained an active career as a composer and songwriter. He served as musical director for the Volksbühne, the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, and the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. His debut album, "Fallsucht," was released in 2009 as a free download, followed by his first official album, "Wir können nix dafür," two years later. In 2012, he co-founded the band Die Höchste Eisenbahn with Francesco Wilking, later joined by Max Schröder and Felix Weigt.

Krämer's feature film debut came in 2015 with the social drama "Bube Stur" (" Stubborn Boy") which premiered at the Berlinale's Perspektive Deutsches Kino section. However, he soon devoted himself fully to music, releasing several solo albums and EPs and producing work with Die Höchste Eisenbahn until 2021.

As a film composer, Krämer collaborated with Patrick Reising and Francesco Wilking on the soundtrack for "Petting statt Pershing" ("Good Girl Gone Bad (That's It, Helmut)", 2018) and on TV for the "Tatort" episodes "Wer zögert, ist tot" (2021) and "Finsternis" (2022). He composed solo for the tragicomedy "Alle wollen geliebt werden" ("Everybody Wants To Be Loved," 2022).

In October 2022, Krämer began filming his dffb graduation project, "Die feige Schönheit" ("About Them"), a queer coming-of-age story. The film premiered at the Hof International Film Festival in October 2024, just ahead of its theatrical release.
