L'Opera oder Musik entsteht aus der Stille

In Palermo there is a gigantic theatre building: the Teatro Massimo - the largest theatre in the world. The writer Isidor Gondlowitz sets out from his homeland, Switzerland, to write a book about this impressive place. For although the theatre is intact and ready for use, it is not used. Gondlowitz rehearses himself in all the roles on and behind the stage and increasingly begins to lose himself in the huge house and in theatrical acting.
