Born in Leipzig, Germany in 1977, she attended a children’s and youth sports school and, in 1989, was the East German diving champion in her age group. Following the fall of the Wall she moved to Berlin. After completing school, she worked as a production assistant for Deutsche Welle TV and then studied film and theatre at Humboldt University, directing her first films and working in between as a freelance editor. She took a directing degree at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin. Her graduation film, the documentary "Einzelkämpfer", screened in the 2013 Perspektive Deutsches Kino.
