Born in 1965, he studied philosophy and literature at Helsinki University from 1992- 98, followed by film in Helsinki, specialising in directing and screenwriting. After several short films, in 2005 he made his much acclaimed feature film debut, a drama about young people entitled "Koti-Ikävä" (Homesick). "Musta Jää" is his second feature.
