Born in Kiel in 1955. Took final school examinations in Hamburg and studied at universities in Hamburg, Bochum and Essen. From 1988 he was an assistant director on film and television productions and also worked in independent film and media. Has made documentaries and shorts, including feature-length compilation film "Die Mission - Film vom Frieden und seinem Krieg" which screened in the Forum section of the Berlinale in 1983. Underwent sexual reassignment in 1997 and still works as a director and photographer.
