Born in Sarajevo on 19.12.1974 where she attended the Academy of Performing Arts. In 1995 she worked as a puppeteer at the "Bread and Puppet" theatre in the USA. In 1997 she founded an artists’ association and later film production company named Deblokada, under the aegis of which she produced ten short films and documentaries as well as art videos that were shown to great acclaim at international festivals and museums, such as the Kunsthalle Fridericianum in Kassel in 2004. "Grbavica", her debut as a feature film director, won the Golden Berlin Bear in 2007.
