Niels Laupert, born April 11, 1975, in Frankfurt am Main, made his first experiences in the movie business after finishing high school when he worked as an intern for several film, TV, and post production companies.

In 1997, he started to study in the department "Production and Media Management" at Munich"s Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) and graduated five years later – and immediately started to study directing for movie and TV productions, also at HFF. His graduation film, the teenage drama "Sieben Tage Sonntag" ("Seven Days Sunday"), was shown at festivals in New York and Rotterdam, among others, and won several festival awards, including the Mentor Award at the 2007 Munich film festival.
