Biography

Nana Neul, born 1974 in Werther, studied in the department of film & television at Cologne's Kunsthochschule für Medien from 1995 to 2000. Several of her short films she finished as a student have been shown at international festivals. From 1997 to 1998, Neul worked as a freelance author for the RTL production company Clou Entertainment ("T.V. Kaiser"). After graduating with a diploma, she earned a scholarship of the European Film Institute in Karlsruhe where she was in charge of producing the "Making of" of Dario Argento's thriller "I can't sleep". From 2002 to 2003, Neul took another scholarship from Drehbuchwerkstatt München.

In 2008, Nana Neul made her feature film debut with the teenage love story "Mein Freund aus Faro" ("To Faro"), that premiered at the Film Festival Max Ophuels prize and won the award for best screenplay. In 2014 her next feature film "Stiller Sommer ("Silent Summer") followed.

For television, she directed the love triangle story "Eine Sommerliebe zu Dritt" (2016) and the social drama "Unser Kind" (2018), about a lesbian woman who fights for custody of her child after the accidental death of her wife. At the 2019 German Television Awards, "Unser Kind" was nominated for Best Television Drama; at the German Camera Awards, it won the prize for Best Editing (Stefan Stabenow).

In the fall of 2021, Nana Neul's third feature film started: "Daughters" is about two longtime friends who embark on a final journey together with the terminally ill father of one of them.
