Biography

Walter Moers was born on May 24, 1957, in Mönchengladbach. After finishing school, he began an apprenticeship as a merchant and taught himself to draw. In the mid-1980s, the autodidact published his first cartoons, mainly in satirical magazines such as "Kowalski" und "Titanic". Moers still works for these publications today. Because of their irreverent and deliberately politically incorrect humour, Moers" comics and cartoons are often controversial. Moers is making fun of the church, capitalism, gays, and old people, to name but a few. He even received threats by right wing extremists during the 1990s for the derision of Adolf Hitler in his comic series "Adolf die Nazisau". "Käpt"n Blaubär", on the other hand, who was first published in 1988, is properly suited for children.

Whereas "Käpt"n Blaubär" became a regular in the ARD children"s program "Sendung mit der Maus", "Das kleine Arschloch" (The Little Bastard) made it straight to the movies and it was Moers who wrote the screenplay to the 1997 film version of his successful comic book. Two years later, the film was followed by "Käpt"n Blaubär – Der Film". Moers also wrote the screenplay to this film. With "Das kleine Arschloch und der alte Sack" (The Little Bastard and the Old Fart, 2006), Moers and director Michael Schaack resume the adventures of the irreverent and precocious boy and his libidinous grandfather.
