Shy and neglected by her parents in her childhood, Amelie Poulain leads a lonely life. After her mother's death and the split with her father, the young woman flees into a fantasy world and has no social contacts other than her work as a waitress in a Parisian café. One day she finds a small box hidden behind a tile in the bathroom, the contents of which she wants to return to the owner. The search for the unknown owner becomes an exciting journey through Paris and an experience in which Amelie learns not only to please other people, but also to find her own happiness.
