Rokoko

Rokoko takes place on one day in 1753 . The children′s uninhibitedness is juxtaposed with the restraint of the teenage performers who only give a hint of the emotions, while the adults draw on their experiences of life to play their roles ...

A neglected castle and the natural surroundings serve as the backdrop for a summer comedy loosely based on Carlo Goldini. It is not the story itself, but rather the different acting techniques by the non-professional adult, teenage and child actors that provide the film′s subject. The children′s uninhibitedness is juxtaposed with the restraint of the teenage performers who only give a hint of the emotions, while the adults draw on their experiences of life to play their roles. The playing remains recognizable as a "game" and takes on a light and parable-like character. Unknown musical pieces by well-known composers from the 18th century were recorded on historical instruments for the film. Compositions by the eight- and 16-year-old W. A. Mozart underscore the youthful atmosphere of the film, while pieces by Marais do justice to the melancholic side of a young man.
