Jeff Bieber

Biography

The U.S. producer Jeff Bieber began working in American television in the mid-1980s. Over the decades, he has produced numerous documentary films and series, often focusing on social and political issues, including "Avoiding Armageddon" (2003), on the dangers of weapons of mass destruction, and "Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience" (2008), which explored the experiences of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. The latter earned him an Emmy Award and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Bieber received another Emmy as producer of "The Mysterious Human Heart" (2008). 

He also produced documentaries on a range of immigrant groups and cultural minorities in the United States, among them "The Jewish Americans" (2008), "Latino Americans" (2013), "Italian Americans" (2015), "The Pilgrims" (2015), and "Asian Americans" (2020). In 2022, he founded Jeff Bieber Productions, through which he produced, among other projects, "Dante" (2024), about the Florentine poet Dante Alighieri. 

As producer, writer, and director (together with Chana Gazit), he created the documentary "Hannah Arendt – Facing Tyranny" (US/DE/PL, 2025) for the television series "American Masters." It was broadcast in the United States in June 2025 and released in Germany that fall under the title "Hannah Arendt – Denken ist gefährlich."
