Mona Mur im Gespräch
The documentary follows artist Mona Mur on her musical journey, which began in the West German post-punk scene of the early 1980s and has since spanned numerous genres and forms of artistic expression. The film showcases her versatility - from post-punk and industrial to electronica, piano-driven ballads, and experimental music - highlighting the key milestones of her career and her many collaborations with musicians such as En Esch (KMFDM), FM Einheit, Mark Chung and Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten), Nikko Weidemann ("Babylon Berlin"), Dieter Meier (Yello), and J.J. Burnel and Dave Greenfield (The Stranglers), as well as filmmakers like Monika Treut and Fatih Akin, and with orchestras and photographers.
At the heart of the film is a conversation between Mona Mur and director Dietmar Post in a studio, accompanied by a virtual "jukebox" of archival footage, music videos, and live performances. This creates a personal and reflective insight into her artistic choices, challenges, and visions. The film shows how Mur has consistently followed her own path, refused to conform to expectations, and continuously evolved her creative work - a compelling portrait of an artist who remains true to her principles.
