Jennifer Mallmann
Jennifer Mallmann was born in 1994 in Oberwesel, Germany. From 2015 to 2017, she studied Motion Pictures at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, where she produced several short documentaries focusing on the lives of refugees. During this period, she also became an active member of the non-profit organization "Soup and Sock e.V.," which provides humanitarian aid to refugees.
In 2017, Mallmann began her studies in documentary filmmaking at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. There, she continued to create short documentaries addressing social and political issues, including "Dogs" (2019), which explores the unique relationships between three people and their dogs, and "The Battle for Our Voices" (2020), which chronicles the fight for women's rights in Poland. Alongside her studies, she worked as an editorial assistant at the regional public broadcaster Südwestrundfunk. In 2020, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the Summer School at the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice, followed in 2022 by the prestigious Deutschlandstipendium, a nationwide scholarship program for talented students at public and state-recognized universities in Germany.
Her feature-length thesis film, "Moria Six" (2022–2024), follows six young refugees accused of arson at the Moria refugee camp in Greece. The film premiered at DOK Leipzig 2025, where it won both the DEFA Förderpreis and the Filmpreis Leipziger Ring awarded by the Stiftung Friedliche Revolution. "Moria Six" received its theatrical release in May 2025.
