Chris the Swiss

In 1992, at the time of the Yugoslav wars, the young Swiss Christian Würtenberg died in Croatia. His death brought up questions, because although he had entered as a journalist, at the time of his death, he wore the uniform of an international mercenary group, which fought on the Croatian side. Many years later, Würtenberg's cousin, filmmaker Anja Kofmel, decides to seek answers. She had admired Chris when she was still a child, now she wants to find out why he joined the armed struggle, unnoticed by his family and friends at home. She tries to figure out why her cousin became a member of a nationalist mercenary force supported by Opus Dei. Kofmel combines her documentary shots with somber animation sequences to trace Chris' experiences.
